MARGENTO (Chris Tanasescu) is an internationally awarded intermedia poet who gave performances, lectured, and launched books in four continents. His alias is the name of a cross-artform performance poetry band he started 25 years ago, which has since evolved into a transnational network of poets, artists, translators, and coders. MARGENTO operates both as a growing creative community and a sequence of event-driven multilayered networks emerging spontaneously as human/data/AI hybrids. The long-running initiative #GraphPoem represents the most sustained mathematical and computational modeling of such collaborative work to date, a project he started at San Diego State University as a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow in 2010-11. that has since won grants and residencies in Canada and Western Europe. He is the author, editor, or translator of over 25 books, including a Romanian translation of Ilya Kaminsky’s Dancing in Odessa (Dansand in Odesa, Bucharest: Vinea, 2007), and, more recently, Literature and Computation (Routledge, 2024) and A Computationally Assembled Anthology of Contemporary Belgian Poetry ((co-edited with Raluca Tanasescu, featuring John Taylor as the main translator; Peter Lang, 2025, forthcoming).
