Broadsides: A Cross-pollination of Language and Image
This spring, Poetry International had the pleasure of working with some very talented
students from San Diego State University’s School of Art and Design. These student-
artists chose a poem from a carefully curated selection from Poetry International’s
archive and created broadsides that aimed to honor the story, structure, imagination, and
music of the work. Of over thirty submissions, our Editors chose six broadsides that best
captured the spirit of its source poem. The featured artists here are Karina Asriyan,
Megan Huang, Aidyn Johnson, Lauren Manuguid, Pamela Martinez, and Kylie
Wendover. The poets they’ve honored are Kazim Ali, Katie Ford, Mark Irwin, Alicia
Ostriker, Suphil Lee Park, and Christina Pugh.
