Ghazal of the Residue
A scale, a scab, a petal — we are residue,
dark matter, dark veil, we are residue.
We’re the survivors, matzah crumbs on the parquet,
semen evaporated on the sheet, we are the residues
of thirst, an ounce of lukewarm water in the carafe
never served, emptied into the sink, we are residue
of skin and hair on the bathroom tiles, dust behind
the wardrobe, navel lint, we are residue,
we’re pheasant feathers on the rapeseed field in winter,
silent leftovers of terror, we are the residue
of a red taillight smeared in the darkness of the moor,
stain of blood before the sun sets, we are the residue
of a combustion, dry black sunflowers
among the couch grass paralyzed by frost and salt, we are residue,
remains of a poltergeist, ghost teeth and dog hair
scattered in vines between the earth and the sun, we’re the residues
of our betrayals, sword hilts in the mud, skeletons
in the ice, scents of sex on the fingertip, we’re the residues
of a thousand battles, the invisible walls of Agincourt, Achaean
ships of our jealousies, we are butterflies, we are the sticky
residues of honey, abandoned hives, memory
of pollen and hexagons, of stingers and wings, we are residue,
we are the last ones – scales, scabs, petals.

materia oscura, oscuro velo, siamo residui.
l’armadio, lanugine ombelicale, siamo residui
