Artist’s Statement

“Hypertext Heart” explores the interplay between presence and absence, words coming alive with light, sound, and motion as they fade and appear in response to the reader’s engagement—disappearing when the cursor stops moving. Some words are highlighted to show a heartbeat-like pulse beneath, showcasing the fragility of attention. As the text fades and reappears the persistence of memory is seen. The poem blurs the line between sensory and visuals (reading and feeling), text is layered, animation and sounds are used to create this interactive poem where you shape the poem’s rhythm and emotional impact. By inviting the reader to “cocreate” the work and control the pace, this work explores concepts like impermanence (consider how the “secret ending” only shows once even if you refresh the page) and connection, key concepts that tie together human beings.
